You are invited to join us at the 2020 AALS Conference on Clinical Legal Education with its theme “Fortifying our Foundation and Building for the Future.”
AALS organizes the clinical conference each year to provide a space amidst the larger law faculty community that is dedicated to the unique and often pressing opportunities, challenges, and teaching moments present in law school clinics. I am proud that, in its 43rd year, the conference remains flexible and responsive to the needs of clinical faculty. This year’s organizers have adjusted the structure of the programming to allow more opportunities to participate as speakers and panelists—we now have more than 90 concurrent sessions, including two timeslots of 20-minute lightning sessions.
While the program has expanded, we’ve made it easier to navigate with a new mobile app. We encourage you to use it to find you way around the hotel, to build your personal schedule, and to connect on social media. The app will be available this spring in your app store as “AALS Events.”
I am also pleased that this year will include the biennial Workshop for New Clinical Law School Teachers immediately prior to the conference. I hope that many new teachers will attend; as in years past, there is no additional fee to attend the workshop.
I encourage anyone attending to consider the timing and location of this year’s conference: Orlando, FL in early May provides a wonderful opportunity to turn the meeting into a family event. AALS has negotiated favorable room rates–$209 per night at the AALS hotel—to help keep costs down.
From theory to practice, and from hands-on working groups to receptions, this year’s schedule promises to provide as many opportunities for connection and celebration as it does for scholarship and examination. I hope you will join us this spring.
With best wishes for a productive semester,
Judy Areen
